Picture Framing Workshops

Tutor: Sue Harper.

Framing Oils on Canvas

Dates: Friday evening, 9/11 and 16/11 2018, 19:00 - 22:00.

This workshop is designed to introduce you to framing your canvases.  Working with canvases that have been stretched over stretcher bars, we will look at the different approaches you might take when working with oils on canvas.  We will look at the differences in using Float (or L-Frames) and regular frames, and the impact of using a double frame.  The mouldings for the frames will include raw wood profiles, which you can hand finish to suit your taste.

The sessions will include:

  • Measuring the artwork for a frame

  • Cutting the wood using a mitre saw and guillotine

  • Joining the wood using a desktop underpinner

  • Discussing painting and finishing techniques, and/or waxing the wood to finish it, if required

  • Reviewing the different methods of attaching canvases to the frames

  • Assembling the bundle ready to hang.

Depending on the group, you should be able to finish one or two frames in the two sessions.

Fee:  £130 / concessions £120 (Materials included)
